Mapping and Research for Fulton County, Indiana
Organized on February 4, 1836, Fulton County was named for the famous inventor
Robert Fulton.
Rochester was selected as the County Seat and was laid out in 1835 by A. Chamberlin
and L. N. Bozarth. By 1849 it contained three stores, two taverns, two churches,
and Odd Fellows Hall, county buildings, 60 dwellings and 300 inhabitants.
Around the turn of the 20th Century many farmers in the county built round barns
in an attempt to achieve efficiency through centralized feeding. As a result
eleven round barns are preserved today.
