Mapping and Research for Hancock County, Indiana

Organized on March 1, 1828, Hancock County was named for John Hancock, who led the Stamp Act opposition and worked closely with Samuel Adams in
the anti-British campaign. A member of the Continental Congress, he was the first and boldest signer of the Declaration of Independence.

The County seat, Greenfield, was first settled by Meek and Spillman, in 1828.

Greenfield is also the home of poet, James Whitcomb Riley.
